Cosmic Lacework and Particle Paths

“When I was younger I found playing cards fascinating. I would stare at the engraved patterns on the back for hours. I loved the feeling of being lost.”

The Hourly Comics
Saturday, February 2, 2008
Suzanne and I have just completed our entries for this years Hourly Comic Day. You can find the comics on the Hourly Comic page.  We had a lot of fun doing the comics. Hope you enjoy them.
(As a funny aside, after I drew the smiley face on the fur on our dog’s head, Suzanne informed me I actually drew it on her skin. Now I can not stop seeing it. Every time I look at Bramplepatch my eye zeroes in on that tiny smiley face.)

Mandala-pattern 20
Monday, January 21, 2008
“I do worry about falling into a creative rut with the mandala-patterns. The development of habit can only lead to stagnation. So to break my habit of rotational patterns, I try to design a simple repeating pattern every now and then. “

The Rabbit begins anew
Friday, January 11, 2008
As I mentioned earlier in the blog, all the events of this summer stirred up the sediment in my mind. I re-evaluated the my work on the Rabbit. I did not like what I was doing. It did not feel right so I stopped.

After a few months of background work, I felt ready to begin again. If you look on The Rabbit page, you will find the work I have done up to now. Currently it showcases the black and white linework of Chapter 1: sections 1 through 4. I am in the midst of finishing section 4, then sections 5 and 6. Chapter 1 should run six sections. All the coloring I will do after I finish all the line work for the first chapter.

Mandala-pattern 19
Friday, January 4, 2008
” I don’t know what to say about this painting. I don’t even remember making it. It is another variation using the hexagon pattern I dreamed of. I really like how the yellow slowly works it way into the pattern. All in all, I find it pretty.“

I have started a sketch blog at http://jasonarcand.blogspot.com. I will attempt to post all the drawings and artwork I have worked on through out the day. This will range from the actual comic book pages to the pre-production sketches I create for each project.

...Moved In

Saturday, September 8, 2007
Suzanne and I have finally finished moving in to our new home. One week at Disney World then a week at San Diego Comic-con wore us out. Our back to back vacations, with one day in between to move everything into the new home, is not an experience I would like to repeat.

I am thankful for the experiences this past summer. The turmoil and stress forced me to look at the work I was doing on the Rabbit honestly. It was not good. A lack of genuine effort on the background, or setting, of the story has weakened my efforts. I rushed it. Now I am going to take my time. Time to plot. Time to biograph. Time to sketch out to story.

Moving...
Wednesday, July 4, 2007
“The website is on hold till Suzanne and I finish our move. We are sleeping on her parent’s living room sofa till we close on our house. Don’t worry, it is only two weeks. I will most likely not be doing updates in that time, but I will continue working on the Rabbit. I would like to have chapter one finished before we go to Comicon in San Diego.”

Mandala-pattern 18
Monday, June 18, 2007
“Number 18 reminds me of an Easter egg. I feel burned out, so this will be the last Mandala-pattern for a while.”
-Jason Arcand

“Here Biff casts a spell that turns him invisible. He wants to use magic to steal the Flying Broom from somewhere in the Faerie Castle.”
